Pediatric Basic Disaster Life Support is a custom designed program that incorporates the concepts and strategies of the PDLS program of UMASS.
A major focus of Pediatric Basic Disaster Life Support is the difference between children and adults. Children have unique medical and psychological needs that must be considered during disaster preparedness and response planning. PBDLS reflects the advancements in the science of pediatric care during disasters and will focus on the special vulnerabilities of children during and immediately following a disaster. This course encourages a combination of First Receivers and First Responders to come together to understand the special needs of the pediatric victim. Physician led instruction allows for a compendium of information suitable to physician level as well as clinical/EMT. The instructional level is geared toward the specific audience.
