As an asset of Louisiana, R-S-I was asked to deploy to an EMAC request from the state of Florida during their recovery efforts from hurricane Irma. Our team of over a dozen nurses and staff were deployed and on the ground within 48 hours. The nursing staff became the relief and sole caregivers for the Medical Special Needs Shelter in one of the most heavily impacted counties in the State. Upon arrival, there were over 30 patients with varied acuity levels. Our nursing team assumed responsibility for the shelter care and managed the patients 24 hours a day until all patients were relocated or discharged and then demobilized the shelter. Once this mission was completed, the state warehouse for medical equipment was in disarray from deploying its resources. R-S-I requested to go assist State staff in Tallahassee to restock and prepare equipment for next potential deployment.
